Conducting a mySAP ERP project —be it an upgrade, consolidation, support pack deployment, landscape synchronization, or other lifecycle event — requires a complete and accurate picture of the “as-is” and “to-be” environments. You must also consider the amount of custom code within your current system landscape and how you will migrate it to the target landscape. To determine the exact differences between the test system and production environment, customers must move away from manual methods to automation. Automation cuts the time, cost, and complexity of manual system analysis and increases productivity across support and project teams. October 2006

SAP R/3 product forms the backbone of the application portfolio for more than 20,000 midsize and large companies worldwide. The vast majority of these still run the classic R/3 release 4.6C, with many others on even older versions. Our current research shows that many of them are planning to upgrade to the proven mySAP ERP 2004 release (also referred to as ECC 5.0). But many enterprises still find it hard to justify the expense of an ERP upgrade (see the AMR Research Report “Key Steps in Your ERP Lifecycle Plan,” May 2005). So are there any proven tools that can help reduce the cost and risk of the R/3 upgrade for SAP customers? Based on discussions with a number of AMR Research clients, the answer is yes. April 2006

IntelliCorp offers a number of solutions around the NetProcess suite. For many potential customers, the starting point is likely to be the SOLO offering, a low-cost promotional trial that can be requested from IntelliCorp. The customer needs to register on the company's website, and send a file of appropriate SAP transaction log data. A report is produced and sent by e-mail that provides useful information about the likely impact of an upgrade from version 4.6c to 4.7 of SAP. As a 'taster' for the level of information available, this can illustrate quite detailed information such as the most heavily used transactions by major process area. (such as sales, financials, etc.) - and can also indicate how much various custom transactions are used, and how much of the code may be obsolete. March 2006
